Summer of Fun!
Four Hour Programs:
Farmers in the City Learn the life cycle of a plant and plant your own seeds to take home. Discover what an herb
is through smell and taste. Explore why insects are good for plants, stamp an orange
impression, and learn the secrets of trees. Create your own snack of celery sticks, raisins,
and peanut butter.
Victorian Pioneer Days Children experience daily life of 100 years ago in Orange County by making butter, washing
clothes, dressing in period clothing, learn about old fashioned toys and games. Make
traditional crafts and enjoy a snack of veggies and juice.
“Tom Sawyer” Adventure Day Just like Tom Sawyer, have a wildlife adventure! Explore the wetlands and the critters that
call it home. Learn to identify animal tracks, construct a raft, knot tying, and learn how to use
a compass and find buried treasure. A snack of finger foods and juice included.
Hopscotch, Marbles and Kites A fun filled day all about games in the nineteenth century. Play and learn traditions of many
time period games such as hopscotch, badminton, and checkers. Make your own game to
take home. A snack of hotdogs and lemonade served.
A Stitch in Time Learn about textiles, sewing, spinning and weaving, in the nineteenth century and what role it
played in children’s lives. Create your own sewing crafts. Enjoy a snack of fruit and juice.
Feathered Friends From songbirds to soaring eagles, this workshop explores the world of birds. Students will
construct nests, make bird feeders, and dissect owl pellets. Explore our nature center in
search of more than 40 resident species.
Wet and Wild Go on a scavenger hunt through the wetlands and learn about the animals that live there.
Make an underwater viewer and look into the aquatic world of frogs, fish, and water insects.
Alice in Wonderland The Alice in Wonderland takes small children through the excitement of a Mad Tea Party
from making invisible invitatouns to drinking lemonade "tea". Hearts, croquet and painting
roses complete their storybook day.
Treasure Island Hoist a pirate flag and get ready for adventure! Experience the timeless class, "Theasure
Island," as you search for buried treasure, make a map, learn how to read a compass,
decipher codes and construct a sea worthy ship using mathematical skills.
Inventions and Inventors Study about the master inventors and spark your own creativity. View nineteenth century
inventions and disover how they evolved into everyday items. Enjoy cookies and lemonade
on the Veranda.
All tours are $12.00 for a 4 hour program - ages 7 to 11 for most.
Groups of 10 or more may do the program on any week day.
